“Child and Self-Regulation” (Nicosia, Cyprus)
Organizer: A.Ki.DA. (Independent Movement of Teachers & Kindergartens of Cyprus)
Speaker: Maria Stamataki, ECP
Positive feelings and nice memories were experienced in our presentation in Cyprus. On Saturday the 24th of November, we responded to the invitation of A.Ki.DA., to talk about the self-regulation of children and educators. The organization was impeccable, the welcome very warm and the sharing very substantial. The request of A.Ki.DA. had a special meaning as the educational system both in Greece and Cyprus is under crisis more than ever and ways to maintain and support the self-regulatory mechanism of both the teacher and the child are sought. Only through protective moves towards his self and the child, the teacher can reduce the negative consequences of the crisis and the traumatic period on himself and consequently on his student. The emotional connection to maintaining the cohesive tutor-pupil relationship is essential for the mental balance of all of us. For us in Brace, the care of the educator has a great meaning today more than ever. Good luck to everyone’s work! Thank you A.Ki.DA.!
2nd Training Program for Candidates in Foster Parenting
Brace Social Coop participated in the 2nd Pilot Training Program aimed at candidates in Foster Parenting that was conducted by the District of Attica at the National Deaf Foundation (Zacharof 1, Ambelokipi). Brace’s participation was on a volunteer basis, same as in the 1st Training Program that was held in July of 2016.
The program lasted for 5 days (7-11 May) and its’ purpose was to train and support potential foster parents with knowledge, methods and techniques for smooth integration of the child into the family, problem management and the promotion of emotional development. Brace presented the issues of connection and communication between the child and foster parents and ways of supporting development through everyday interaction (strategies, examples, experiential exercises).
The response of the potential foster parents was touching! We wish them good luck and strength in this important task they have undertaken.
Completion of the Marte Meo Practitioner training!
The new year started with the completion of another two Marte Meo Practitioner training programs. Meeting those two groups of wonderful people and professionals, has touched and enriched us!
As the 2018 was at its beginning, we honored the custom of Vassilopita (Greek New Year’s cake). This year’s ‘Golden Coin’ went to two Marte Meo trainees, Athena and Sofia. Trying to interpret the message behind this, we searched for information in regards to the Goddess Athena and so we were reminded that Goddess Athena not only symbolizes Wisdom (Sofia), but she was also the protector of handicraft! And craftwork is nothing more than creating with our hands. Our own means! Our own forces!
With the wish to weave the thread of our life, with our own means and with a lot of Wisdom, we truly thank you for your participation and your warm feedback.
Delight and love in your life! Until we meet again…!

Completion of the Marte Meo Practitioner training!
On Sunday the 19th of March, two more Marte Meo programmes were completed, making the Marte Meo Practitioners’ network in Greece even bigger. Professionals of Mental Health, Counselors, Psychologists and Special Education Tutors from all over Greece inspired us with the respect and devotion to their work and shared with us moments of joy and emotion through their daily experiences. Contrary to the harsh conditions of the period, they activated their forces with a common vision, to bring the change they all want inside them and around them.
We truly thank them for their excellent cooperation and wish them that hope and creativity will accompany them in every step they take. Good luck in their work!

Completion of the Marte Meo Practitioner training at SOS Children’s Village in Vari
We wanted to create a “Circle of Love” in the SOS Children’s Village in Vari. We joined forces with the Mothers, the Aunts and the Educators of the SOS Village, but also with the Mental Health staff. Our aim was to improve the daily interaction and contact between caregivers and children. To develop a quality communication that will serve as a corrective experience on the children’s traumatic experiences and will strengthen them to meet the challenges of life.
And it seems that we have succeeded!
In creating this Circle of Love, our most valuable partners contributed significantly with ther scientific support: Katerina Koloka, George Alibertis and Sotiria Vegou.
We must thank the SOS Villages for their trust, but also each and every crowdfunding-supporter of this effort.
But above all, thank you Vassilis, Georgia, Litsa, Ioanna, Evangelia, Vivi, Anastassia, Effie, Konstantina, Maria M., Sevi, Maria G., Panagiota, Areti, Eleni, Thanassis, Nikoleta, Konstantinos, Fanny, Angelos, Stathis, Dimitris, Mary K., Yota and Athina because you stand by the children with your high morals and love. The intervention took place in parents of children of the first class. Parents were trained in the program “Nourishing the Child’s Brain” in order to learn to recognize and to name the feelings of their children, to practice empathy, to use the technical support in expressing and managing their emotions.
